Business Retention & Expansion

CEDA E-News – Coordinated through annual communications plan, and issues related to priorities set out in Business Plan.  Minimum 3 issues/month or more as needed. Increase average "open" rate.  Increase number of subscribers (781) by 5%.

Build a Better Business Lunch Speaker Series - Partner with Canmore Rotary Club & BDCWest to deliver short training sessions focusing on building business & management skills as well as networking opportunities for businesses.

DOING BUSINESS IN CANMORE – Partner with Town of Canmore on Business & Community Resource Book with focus on Arts & Culture in 2007. Contains Business Registry listings by category.

Health & Wellness Summit – November 2007 - Bring community, government and industry together around the opportunities for Canmore to become a Leader in Health & Wellness in North America. 

CEDA Websites & Community Profiles – www.canmorebusiness.com  & www.AlbertaFirst.com  – Publish the BR through a link to new BR database through Town of Canmore. Updating underway – based on Doing Business in Canmore 2007. Work with CRP & Town to publish the Canmore Business Registry on AlbertaFirst.com.

Business to Business Discount Program Quarterly profile of Business Discount Program members that encourages members of the BR to use local services & fellow members of BR.

New Business Start-Up & Counseling

  • Partner with Business Development Centre West to ensure individuals have good access to new business start-up information & counseling.

  • Participate with BDCWest in Canmore Trade Show to showcase local access to information.

CEDA Associate Membership

  • Become more accountable to the Canmore Business Registry and continue to add business input into community economic development through the participation of the 3 new Board Positions from the Canmore Business Registry

Employee Retention & Attraction

  • Identify & communicate leaders, best practices & innovative techniques that are successful in retaining & attracting employees.

  • Work with Calgary Regional Partnership and the CEDA Labour Strategy Sub-Committee to coordinate & develop a long-term labour market strategy.

Economic Diversification

Health & Wellness - A key focus for CEDA 2007. 
Work with industry and community to implement a strategic approach intended to capitalize on the opportunities around the momentum in resort / wellness development.

  • Develop a Health & Wellness Industry Profile for the Bow Valley - Use to articulate our assets & opportunities.

  • Health & Wellness Summit - Gain community input and endorsement by demonstrating the opportunities to become a leader and innovator in wellness, health services and living communities in North America.

  • Industry & Investment Outreach - begin to make contacts through industry associations in the international community.

  • Community Partnerships to Grow this sector in Canmore is developed.

Tourism – work with Tourism Canmore to identify product gaps. Ex: Public transportation systems, conference centre, etc.  Funding to $125,000 for 2007 tourism marketing. 

Advanced Technologies: Encourage momentum of working group on a Western Watershed Climate Research Collaborative

Regional Asset Inventory – Partner within the CRP to see the creation of a Regional Asset Inventory that will profile the Bow Valley’s assets & all businesses listing in the Canmore Business Registry.

Art / Culture Economic Impact Assessment

Land Base / Sustainability Infrastructure

Sustainability Hub - CEDA will continue to work as a liaison into the business community for the Bow Valley Sustainability Hub.  The Hub is an outcome of The Natural Step for a Sustainable Canmore, a project which CEDA was a partner in the previous 3 years to deliver into the community.

Downtown Canmore Business Revitalization Zone - CEDA provides staffing to support the development of the new Downtown Canmore BRZ.  We partner to provide communication systems & administrative support for day to day operations of the new Downtown Canmore BRZ, established early 2006.
