Business Retention & Expansion

CEDA E-News – Coordinated through annual communications plan, and issues related to priorities set out in Business Plan.  Minimum 3 issues/month or more as needed. Increase average "open" rate.  Increase number of subscribers (781) by 5%.

Build a Better Business Lunch Speaker Series - Partner with Canmore Rotary Club & BDCWest to deliver short training sessions focusing on building business & management skills as well as networking opportunities for businesses.

Health & Wellness alliance - work with industry partners to create an alliance of individuals and organizations committed to moving Canmore forward as a destination of healthy living and wellbeing.

Canmore LifeFest – November 2009 - A celebration of healthy living - kick off to a health & wellness alliance in Canmore

CEDA Websites & Community Profiles www.canmorebusiness.com  & www.AlbertaFirst.com  – Publish the Business Registry through a link to the live business registry database through Town of Canmore.

New Business Start-Up & Counseling

  • Partner with Community Futures Centre West to ensure individuals have good access to new business start-up information & counseling.

CEDA Associate Membership

  • Become more accountable to the Canmore Business Registry and continue to add business input into community economic development through the participation of the 3 new Board Positions from the Canmore Business Registry

Employee Retention & Attraction

  • Identify & communicate leaders, best practices & innovative techniques that are successful in retaining & attracting employees.

  • Work with Calgary Regional Partnership and the CEDA Labour Strategy Sub-Committee to coordinate & develop a long-term labour market strategy.

Economic Diversification

Health & Wellness - A key focus for the next few years. 
Work with industry and community to implement a strategic approach intended to capitalize on the opportunities around the momentum in resort / wellness development.  As project manager for Community Futures Centre West, this community will receive and match up to $198,000 in health & wellness projects over the next 3 years from the Rural Development Initiative a partnership of Western Diversification and Community Futures.  Past Community Futures RCED funding and this RDI grant will be used for the following:

  • Develop a Health & Wellness Industry Profile for the Bow Valley - Completed in 2007, used to articulate our assets & opportunities and to set benchmarks for industry growth.

  • Coordinate the development of an alliance around healthy living & wellbeing. 

  • Work with the alliance steering committee to develop a portal access to health sector, services, practitioners both internally and as a destination attraction and awareness link.

  • Canmore LifeFest - Bring together practitioners, business owners and members of the community, connecting the public to health services and providing an opportunity for professionals to network and to generate revenue for further work of a health alliance.

  • Industry & Investment Outreach - begin to make contacts through industry associations in the international community.

  • Community Partnerships to Grow this sector in Canmore is developed.

Tourism – work with Tourism Canmore to identify product gaps. Ex: Public transportation systems, conference centre, etc.  Funding to $100,000 for 2009 tourism marketing. 

Advanced Technologies: Encourage momentum of working group on a Western Watershed Climate Research Collaborative.
 

Art / Culture Economic Impact Assessment

 

Building & Construction - In August 2009, CEDA hosted a training session for SOLAR ENERGY HOT WATER INSTALLATION in partnership with the Canadian Solar INdustry Association (CANSIA).  The goal was to provide the first step towards certification, encouraging and providing training and skills to over 40 local operators that will open up doors for them as Canmore reaches new building build-out, inevitable in our future with a limited land-base.

Economic Sustainability Infrastructure

Sustainability Hub - CEDA will continue to work as a liaison into the business community for the Bow Valley Sustainability Hub.  The Hub is an outcome of The Natural Step for a Sustainable Canmore, a project which CEDA was a partner in the previous 3 years to deliver into the community.

Downtown Canmore Business Revitalization Zone - CEDA helped start and currently supports the work of the Downtown Canmore Business Revitalization Zone, established early 2006.
